3 Easy Random Acts of Kindness
February 12 starts International Random Acts of Kindness Week. Their website is packed with great ideas on how to celebrate, including 19 different categories to help you focus on an area in your life. I especially love the approach of committing a random act of kindness in these three areas:
- Ideas you can do for strangers
- Ideas for donating
- Ideas just for you
Write positive sticky notes. Keep a pile with you and stick them where you think someone could use a boost in their day. The bus stop, bathroom office, kids school or a parked car are just a few spots! They have great suggestions such as “You know who’s awesome? Read that first word again.”
Ideas for donating
Create a piggy bank for a cause. Choose an organization and start piling the coins in! At the end of the year, count up the money and make the donation. If you have kids, they can put a portion of their allowance in. Not only does it teach them kindness and compassion, but also a bit on how to save money.
Ideas just for you
People depend on you, so it's important to take care of yourself. If you've only got a few minutes, de-clutter your space. I seem to be a master of covering my house in random pieces of my day in a very short amount of time. Even if I only have five minutes, I will make a sweep and put things back in their place. I always feel more relaxed after. If you can set aside some more time, get a massage, go for a walk by yourself to recharge, or window shop at your favorite mall.
Kindness doesn’t have to cost you anything, and it doesn’t need to be a grand gesture. All little goes a long way!
